Microgreens

What are microgreens?

Microgreens are little baby edible plants. They can be used as a garnish or be a major ingredient in a salad or sandwich. You can use them the way you would use alfalfa sprouts from the deli. Many different plant species can be consumed as microgreens including kale, clover, radish, and much more.

Microgreens are not only delicious and beautiful but they are also intensely nutritious. Studies have shown that micros can have 40x more vital nutrients than mature plants of the same variety. In Farmer Starr's opinion, there are few other health foods that are this fun and delicious!

Find Saltless Sea microgreens in North Shore Farmers Collective boxes, and at select restaurants in Duluth.

Community Supported Agriculture “CSA”

Saltless Sea will not sell CSA shares in 2024.

Members of a CSA pay their farmer a bulk sum upfront for regular boxes of farm products. Members will pick up their boxes from a drop site weekly or bi-weekly from July to September.

CSA's enable customers to invest in local farmers because they want the farms to stick around long-term. Customers take part in the risks and rewards of farming. Each box is a "share" of the farm's production and reflect what is bountiful. Likewise, during times of hardships boxes may not include failed crops.

Edible Flowers

Saltless Sea will not be selling edible flowers in 2024.

Why grow edible flowers?

Why not?! If something is beautiful AND you can eat it, why wouldn't you?

There are many different kinds of edible flowers. Some simply add color and intrigue to your plate, while others bring the flavor as well.

Pictured here are Johnny Jump-up flowers, a member of the Viola family related to pansies. Pansies are cold toelrant and flower all season. They have a very mild taste, and add a lot of color!

“I love getting my sprouts from Saltless Sea Farm; they're always fresh and last a really long time in my refrigerator. It's always service-with-a-smile and her booths are filled with beautiful kale and pretty flowers.”
